Teller of Fortunes
Teller of Fortunes
Colored tent and bright ribbons
Offering secret dreams
Dark eyes full of promise
Never quite what they seem.
A turn of the cards
Cast of carved runes
Another seeking answers
Will you dance to my tune?
You fear and revile me
Spit in my path
If you don’t like my answers.
You’ll put me to task.
I offer you insight
A glance into your heart
Instead you just mock me
But still the crowds part.
I walk with the Goddess
Keep sacred the lore
You avoid my eyes
Perhaps you know you are poor?
Still you come to my tent
My garden or my home
In secret you question
Then mark the cross on the stones.
Do you think I can’t see?
The pain that you hide
All the doubt and deceit
As you look for aid to decide.
I won’t offer you pity
Nor mocking eyes will I cast
In time you might forgive
So, my hope will ever last.
